Regional Consultation on Owner Driven Reconstruction

16-18 July 2008, Ghandidham, Gujarat, India

The South Asia Regional Consultation aims to bring together for the first time, experts from States, Civil Society Organizations, Government agencies, International relief agencies, Bilateral and Multilateral Agencies, and Academia throughout South Asia, to focus on best practices and policy frameworks which can enable ODR. Researchers, practitioners and policy makers will exchange experiences and lessons through commissioned papers. It will also include an exposure visit to select post-earthquake reconstructed locations in Kutch. The Consultation seeks to collectively develop a draft policy framework.

*     Workshop with 40-45 experts from throughout South Asia
*     Discussion on key principles of ODR, its potential, limitations and prerequisites for implementation
*     Exchange of experiences and lessons by researchers, practitioners and policy makers
*     Formal presentation of commissioned papers

National Conference on Owner Driven Reconstruction

20-21 October 2008, New Delhi

The end product of this process will be a crystallization of the methodologies and policy implications that enable and optimize Owner Driven reconstruction, and a National draft policy framework to be submitted to the Government of India.

*     Attended by 150 National, State, and local policy makers and influencers from throughout India
*     Discussion on the draft policy framework resulting from the Regional Consultation
*     Determination of the final draft policy framework for ODR to be proposed to the Government of India
